Movie Story
Body Double, directed by Brian De Palma, is a stylish neo-noir thriller set in Los Angeles, centered on Jake Scully (Craig Wasson), a struggling actor who spirals into a surreal mystery after losing his job and girlfriend. Scully is offered a luxurious house-sitting gig by a new acquaintance, Sam Bouchard (Gregg Henry), in the Hollywood Hills. The home comes equipped with a telescope, through which Jake voyeuristically observes Gloria Revelle (Deborah Shelton) performing nightly erotic dance routines.
One evening, Jake witnesses Gloria being attacked; soon after, he becomes an eyewitness to her brutal murder by a masked assailant wielding a power drill. Jake is drawn deeper into the case and, suspicious of the police investigation, begins searching for answers with help from Holly Body (Melanie Griffith), an adult film actress whose performances mirror Gloria’s private dances. As Jake uncovers layers of deception, it becomes clear he himself was manipulated into being a witness and a suspect in a complex plot involving identity theft, revenge, and murder.
The story twists through the seedy world of the adult entertainment industry, culminating in a high-stakes showdown with the real killer, where Jake must conquer his lifelong claustrophobia and his role as an unwitting “body double” to survive.
